A Prayer of Strength for My Husband

Never underestimate the power of a prayerful wife, LiF sister!

Let's face it: there's a lot that's out of our control these days. In a chaotic world, we often find our greatest peace in our closest relationships. Aside from your relationship with Jesus, your marriage is a safe, sacred space. It's where you can be yourself, it's where you can be deeply known, and it's where you can experience the Lord's goodness in an entirely new way.

As a Christian wife, we're called to support our husband, and one of the most powerful ways to do this is through prayer. Here's a daily prayer of strength and resilience to uplift your husband.

A Prayer of Protection

Dear Heavenly Father,

I lift up my husband to you today, Lord. I pray you may watch over him and protect him as he works. Guide him throughout the day, constantly directing his gaze back to you. May he continue to be curious about you, and seek to grow closer and closer to you.

I pray you may grant him favor with those he encounters, whether that be his coworkers, friends, or strangers, too. May he be a light to those around him and draw others near to you through his faith and commitment to you.

Watch over him and keep him safe from harm, whether it's physical or spiritual. Guard his heart against the pitfalls of anger, anxiety, jealousy, and temptation. Keep him close to you. May your angels watch over him.

In your name, Amen.

The Power of a Prayerful Wife

Through the Holy Spirit, you have an amazing opportunity to uplift your husband in prayer. This is your reminder to take some time out of each day to pray for the two of you as you go about your busy day-to-day lives.

The question begs to be asked...What if my relationship with my husband is strained? What if I don't feel like my husband deserves my prayer? How can I move beyond my anger and bitterness toward him and reconcile with him and with God? This is a tough question, and tough situations are exactly what prayer is for!

Consider this passage from Stormie Omartian's book, The Power of a Praying Wife, "If He asks us to pray for our enemies, how much more should we be praying for the person with whom we have become one and are supposed to love? But how do we get past the unforgiveness and critical attitude? The first thing to do is be completely honest with God. In order to break down the walls in our hearts and smash the barriers that stop communication, we have to be totally up-front with the Lord about our feelings."

Accept your husband where he is—exactly where he is—and pray for his growth.

Assess where your expectations are coming from. Are they coming from God or from your husband? If we put all our hopes in anyone or anything other than God, we're bound to get hurt. Take some time to bring your true feelings to God. Pray about it. Express your anger, your frustration, and lift both of you up in prayer.

There's a lot we can learn from the Proverbs 31 woman. This verse in chapter 31, verse 11 really says it all, "The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life."

It should be your greatest joy to cheer on your husband as he grows into the man you know God made him to be. Like anything, there will be seasons of happiness and ease, and seasons of hardship and pain. Regardless, it is your duty to pray for him.

Your marriage is a beautiful partnership and it reflects God's commitment to His church.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?" ~ Ecclesiastes 4:9-11
