How to Say No to Comparison and Trust God’s Plan For You

Saying no to comparison...it's easy to say, and so difficult to live out. Especially with the influence of social media over our daily routine. We're constantly scrolling, taking a peek into other people's lives. You feel left out. You feel like you won't ever measure up. 

Friends, it's almost too easy to fall into the trap of comparison these days.

How do we say no to comparison—the true thief of joy—and focus on what God has to say about the precious, formative events happening in our life? That's the question we're dialing in on today.

We're sharing some passages of Scripture to help you realize just how uniquely beautiful and special you are. Yes, you! When you begin to grasp how God sees you, there's really no need to look to your left or right.

You Have Been Intricately Made

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." ~ Psalm 139:13-16

The Psalms are a fantastic place to start. You can always finds words of encouragement to bolster your confidence in the Lord. In this popular passage from Psalm 139, we see here just how much thought God has put into making you.

You're one of a kind, LiF sister. 

Part of believing in your own value and worth is trusting in God's authority. If God is who He says He is, then you know you don't have to compete with others to get the attention you're craving. If He is truly our Creator and Father, and He calls you daughter, then you can be at peace, knowing His love is all you need. 

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~ Jeremiah 29:11

Open your eyes to the reality that is right before you. Our God has an intricate plan for you, one that He's had in the back of His mind since the beginning of time. You don't have to worry about what others think of you or if you're measuring up to others' standards. You can rest assured, fully at peace, knowing God has "plans to give you a hope and a future."

Where Are You Finding Your Worth?

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." ~ Proverbs 3:5-6

Now that you know just how beautifully you've been made, and how deeply loved you are by God, you must ask yourself—"What's getting in the way of me accepting these truths? Where am I seeking self-worth and why has it been failing me?"

You read your Bible, you spend time with Jesus in prayer, and you still don't feel like you're measuring up. It's okay, I've been there! The next order of business is taking inventory of your life and habits. What habits are serving you and which ones aren't? What daily practices are filling you with peace and which are making you more and more stressed and insecure?

You're not meant to live in someone else's shadow.

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. ~ Philippians 4:8

This applies to what content you scroll through on your phone, what TV you watch, and even who you surround yourself with. Are these practices edifying? Are they bringing you closer to God and His vision for your life? Or is it draining you of your energy, zapping you of your confidence, and making you insecure and bitter towards yourself and others?

The Battle Rages On

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." ~ Ephesians 6:10-11

Don't forget, we live in a war zone—a spiritual war, that is. The Enemy will always seek to distract you with lies to make you feel unloved. Push past these lies and cling to the truth that is before you. Say no to viewing content that makes you feel less than, from the social media you consume to the television shows you watch.
