Are you someone who loves to write cards? If so, you're in luck! We love writing handwritten cards to our loved ones for every occasion. It's such a special way to let them know you're thinking about them, while also spreading hope and encouragement. One of our goals for the new year has been to write more handwritten cards to friends and family. In fact, we plan on making it part of our monthly routine. Whether you're writing a birthday card, an anniversary card, or even a sympathy card, it can be helpful to include relevant Bible verses that match the tone and message. After all, sharing God's Word is always a good idea!

Here are some powerful Bible verses to include in your next card to loved ones—for every occasion!

1. Birthday Card Bible Verses

Hip hip hooray—it's someone's birthday! Birthday cards are perhaps the most common to send, but they're no less fun! This is an excellent opportunity to share what you love most about your friend or family member, but it's also perfect for reminding them of how much they're loved by God. Our Lord is a joyful God. He rejoices when we rejoice. We've included our favorite verses that speak to the joy of the Lord.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." - Romans 15:13

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." - Psalm 139:13-14

"I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete."  - 2 John 1:2

"Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people."  - Philemon 1:7

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11

2. Wedding Card Bible Verses

Again, what a joyous celebration! Surely the Lord rejoices with us, as we celebrate two of our dear friends becoming one through marriage. There is a lot said about marriage in the Bible—whether it's Jesus discussing it, or Paul in many of his letters. Every verse on marriage provides a helpful roadmap for what's to come and also depicts how passionate God is about this union. God's vision for marriage is that it may glorify Him, and represents the covenantal relationship of God's love for His people. Coming together in unity—that's what it's all about.

Here are some beautiful verses depicting God's vision for marriage and human flourishing:

"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." - Ephesians 4:2-3

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." - 1 Corinthians 14:3-8

"And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." - Colossians 3:14-17

"Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." - Romans 12:10

"Place me like a seal over your heart and like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned." - Song of Solomon 8:6-7

3. Anniversary Card Bible Verses

Years of commitment and devotion to one another are to be celebrated. Whether it's a one-year anniversary or a 60-year anniversary, God certainly rejoices with us in this lasting union. Since marriage represents a covenantal relationship, with each passing year we're recognizing our commitment to each other and to God, too. We love sending out anniversary cards to friends. Most of the time, our card surprises them—yep, we remembered! We feel it's important to show how invested we are in their relationship, and how excited we are to see what God is doing through them with each passing year.

Here are some encouraging Bible verses to include in your next anniversary card:

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." - 1 John 4:18

"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." John 15:12-13

"Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins." - 1 Peter 4:8

"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." - Ephesians 4:32

"Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man." - Proverbs 3:3-4

4. Get Well Soon Card Bible Verses

It's always a wonderful idea to send encouragement to a friend who's ill or simply feeling down. Life can get so busy, and it's easy to lose touch with friends over the course of weeks or months. However, by sending a get well soon card, you're letting your loved one know that they're in your thoughts and prayers, and that God hasn't forgotten about them, either.

Here are some comforting, healing-focused Bible verses to include in your next get well soon card:

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" - Psalm 27:12

"I have seen their ways, but I will heal them. I will guide them and reward them with comfort. And for those who mourn, I will create reason for praise: utter prosperity to those far and near, and I will heal them, says the Lord." - Isaiah 57: 18-19

"Let my whole being bless the Lord and never forget all his good deeds: how God forgives all your sins, heals all your sickness." - Psalm 103:2-3

"But now I will heal and mend them. I will make them whole and bless them with an abundance of peace and security.” - Jeremiah 33:6

"God heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” - Psalms 147:3

 5. Sympathy Card Bible Verses

There is no easy fix when it comes to tragedy and hard times. As a friend or loved one of someone who is experiencing loss, we're encouraged to reach out to them and be a source of comfort. We may not have all the right things to say, but we can certainly direct them towards the Bible and God's words of comfort and peace.

Here are some powerful reminders of God's love and presence through times of adversity:

"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10

"Come to me, all who are weary and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." - John 16:33

"May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy." - Colossians 1:11

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." - Deuteronomy 31:8-9
