Rediscovering Your Worth & Holding Tight to God's Promises

Let's be real. What's your self-talk like? How do you speak to yourself throughout the day? Is it affirming? Your self-talk goes back to how you view and value yourself as a person. If you're proud of who you are and confident in who God made you to be, then naturally, you'll be kind to yourself. However, if your self-esteem is lacking and you could really use a pep talk from God, well, that's why we're here today!

Do you realize just how precious you are? There is only one you, after all. God created you in such a specific way, and He wants to remind you of how special and loved you are.

Just in case you've forgotten, we're sharing our favorite passages of Scripture that remind you of how intricately you've been made—and for a purpose, too!

Psalm 139:14

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made."

Of course, there is much more to this passage than this one verse. We encourage you to read all of Psalm 139 as a reminder of how thoughtfully God crafted you. This popular verse is well-quoted for a reason—it makes us feel good. In the world, there are always little voices saying things like, "I don't measure up," or "I'm not worthy," or even, "I'm alone." We can then go straight to this passage and confront those lies head-on. We're told here that God knows us intimately. He knows what we're thinking, where we're going, and how we're feeling. It's comforting because we know we can be completely honest and at peace in His presence. There's nowhere to hide. Not only that, but the Psalmist goes into detail here and even says, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb." How precious is this? The Lord of the universe created you, created me. He spent time crafting you into the beautiful woman you are today. Never forget that.

Romans 5:8

"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

The ultimate display of love and sacrifice was on the cross. When Jesus died for our sins, that we may have access to God and have our sins washed away, our plans for eternity changed forever. This one stunning act in history turned the tables on sin and death. We now get to spend eternity with Christ and enjoy Him forever. The next time you're beating yourself up or feeling ashamed about something you've done, ask for forgiveness but also look to this verse. God loves you so strongly that He sent His only Son to die on the cross for you. You don't have to hide in the shame of your past. Jesus is welcoming you into the promises of His new reality, one free of guilt and sadness. Remember what Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Ephesians 2:10

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

We were created with a purpose, friends! It's no happy accident that you are here. The Lord knew you were destined to live your life at this very moment in time. We know our God is intentional and meticulous with His plans. As image-bearers of God, we too have a grand and glorious purpose on earth. Remember Genesis 1:27, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." We know our daily lives can get monotonous, but work hard to reconnect with God's true purpose for your life. He's sending you reminders every day. Do you perceive them? Whatever task is on your plate, do with excellence. Whether that's watching your kiddos for the day or hustling hard at your 9-5, honor God with your work and your body. Grab hold of His wonderful purpose for you and let that fuel your work.

2 Timothy 1:7

"For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."

Feeling like your anxiety is getting the best of you? We've all been there! Before you let those thoughts spiral out of control, remember who you have access to—the God of peace and self-control. Reach out to Him in prayer and work hard to take your thoughts captive. We're not saying it's easy, but it's so worth it to open up that dialogue and invite God's power into your life. Our thoughts have power over us, and it's time we choose thoughts that are serving us. Don't get bogged down by the lies of the enemy or by forces in the world. Focus on this verse and the power you have at your fingertips. Through the Holy Spirit, the Lord has given you the same power to be a person of deep peace and self-control, just like Him.

Zephaniah 3:17

"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing."

This verse paints such a lovely picture. With phrases like, "rejoice over you," and "quiet you by his love," we can sense the love and care that God feels for His children. We may have loads of worries, but this verse silences them all. Our Father rejoices in you. Do you realize that? As a one-of-a-kind piece of His creation, He delights in your existence. This is such a great verse to read first thing in the morning before you start the day!

Matthew 19:14

"Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Okay, we know Jesus is addressing children in this verse, but we feel it still applies! This verse is such a tender reminder of where Jesus' priorities lay—in being with His children (which is us!). If you recall, in this passage the disciples are trying to move Jesus along in His busy schedule, trying to shoo the kids away from His presence, but He stops them and invites the children to come to Him. He invites the smallest, most vulnerable members of society to find peace and joy in His presence. That's Jesus' heart throughout the Gospels—He's often drawn to those who are most vulnerable, the most down and out. This is such a vivid reminder that the kingdom truly belongs to those who rely on Him, and have child-like faith.

Could You Use More Motivation?

We know just how dark and isolating this world can be, but take heart! The God of the universe crafted you with a purpose. He rejoices in the person He made you to be. You don't have to play the comparison game. We hope these verses reminded you of how valued and dearly loved you are. Need another reminder?
